No jargon required. Here's the journey your data takes with Tolle switched on — and why it matters.
A tunnel is built
Tolle asks Android's built-in VPN service for permission, then opens an encrypted tunnel from your phone to a Tolle server. Android shows a key icon in your status bar while it's active.
Your traffic is sealed
Everything your apps send — pages, searches, messages — travels inside that tunnel, scrambled with strong encryption. Anyone watching the network sees only unreadable data heading to one server.
You exit somewhere else
The server decrypts your traffic and forwards it to its destination. Websites reply to the server, which sends the response back through the tunnel to you. They see the server's IP, not yours.
What changes for the people watching
Without a VPN
Your network operator — a café's Wi-Fi, your mobile carrier, a school network — can see every domain you visit and when. Websites see your real IP address, which reveals your approximate location and links your visits together.
With Tolle connected
The network sees only encrypted traffic to a Tolle server. Websites see the server's address and location instead of yours. Your carrier can tell you're using a VPN, but not what you're doing through it.
Where honesty matters: a VPN protects the connection, not your identity everywhere. If you sign in to an account, that service still knows it's you. Tolle is a privacy tool, not an invisibility cloak — we'd rather you know exactly what you're getting.
